Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian will perform his stand-up at ��ݮ��Ƶ on Dec. 8 to conclude NEIU Gives Back Week.

While tickets are free to students, a donation of a nonperishable food item for the is encouraged. Tickets are $20 for faculty, staff, alumni and the general public. Proceeds will benefit a new scholarship for students who belong to the LGBTQ community.

Jordan, who has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community, has appeared on TV shows such as "American Horror Story" and "Will & Grace," as well as the feature film "The Help.” The performance, titled “An Afternoon With Leslie Jordan,” is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Auditorium on the Main Campus, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago.

Jordan’s performance will be the conclusion of a giving and philanthropy effort that begins on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29. In its first year, NEIU Gives Back Week is being organized by the Student Government Association (SGA) and co-sponsored by Student Leadership Development, French Club, Pre-Law Society, Pride Alliance, Theta Pi Sigma, Justice Studies Club, Sociology Club, Sigma Gamma Rho, Presidential Scholars, Slam Open Mic Club, and Alpha Psi Lambda.

“NEIU Gives Back Week is important to myself, and other SGA members, because we wanted to show just how big the heart of the Northeastern community really is,” SGA Treasurer Max Caviness said.

Many student clubs and organizations will participate in an effort to raise money for charities or scholarships of their choosing, as well as organizing donations for both the Student Pantry and the Department of Social Work’s Power Closet.

“The University community is extremely blessed in the sense that we have opportunities that many others could only dream of,” Caviness said. “Especially during the holidays, it is important to remember to give back to those who are less fortunate.”
